Apple sauce with cinnamon


Tasty and healthy, serve for breakfast, as a sauce for dessert. Serve, warm or chilled, with vanilla ice-cream or vanilla yogurt.

apples (cooking apples such as Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, McIntosh)

lemon peel (fine strips)
cinammon stick (3 inch long)
4 T
lemon juice (fresh)
1⁄4 c
brown sugar (the darker, the better)
1⁄8 c
white sugar (might be less)

  1. Peel, core and cut the apples into small chunks. Place all ingredients into a large pot and cover. Bring apples to a boil, lower the heat and simmer for about 30 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and discard lemon peel and cinnamon stick. Mash the apples with a potato masher until smooth.
