Three Rings of Circus food

What child doesn't love the circus? The animals, the clowns, acrobats are all things of pure amazement for children, and adults who are young at heart.

Recreate a little of the magic at home for your children with a circus party

After you've decked out your big top, don't forget the food. A trip to the circus always comes with lots of fun and indulgent food. Consider favorites like peanuts but get them in the shell and let the kids enjoy the process, hot dogs or corn dogs, jumbo pretzels, pizza, and nachos with cheese dip. Healthier circus treats might include popcorn, animal crackers, sandwiches and cheese cut into animal shapes, melon balls on toothpicks can be arranged as balloons and bananas (fresh or frozen) can be served as monkey treats. Use fresh vegetables to make clown faces on a plate. Orange peppers slices can be the clown's hair. Olives make wonderful eyes. A cherry tomato will serve as the nose. Two dollops of dip are the cheeks, while red peppers can form the mouth, and celery and carrots create a collar. For sweets you could stick with traditional circus fare such as candy apples, funnel cakes, and cotton candy. A round cake or cupcakes are easily decorated as clown faces. Clown cones can be made by placing a large scoop of ice cream on the top of a sugar cone. Then invert the cone onto a baking sheet covered with wax paper. Freeze until firm. Remove from the freezer. The cone will be the hat. Use candies or icing to create the clown face on the ice cream. Decorating the clowns can also serve as an activity for your guests. A circus is a little crazy, very colorful and a lot of fun. Carry those ideas though to your party and your party food and you can't go wrong.
